Mobile World Congress 2017: What we’ve learned

As we mentioned last week, Mobile World Congress 2017 took place last week in Barcelona, Spain. Each year the Mobile World Congress allows the top brands and distributors the opportunity to unveil their newest and best in smartphone technology. In the following blog we have taken a look at some of the announcements that were made by the tech giants in the smartphone industry and what they mean for mobile users moving forward!
BlackBerry: On February 25th, BlackBerry announced their plans to launch the brand new KeyOne at MWC 2017. This announcement comes after BlackBerry made public their intentions to partner with TCL to help rejuvenate their brand strategy. As it turns out, BlackBerry’s latest smartphone is receiving rave reviews! The device itself boasts a vibrant 1,620 x 1,080 screen with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 4.5-inch display. The brand new design has been compared to that of Android devices; in fact, it has been referred to as the most secure Android in the world. The KeyOne has a projected release date of April 2017 at a market price of $549.00.
Nokia: At MWC 2017, Nokia had a few important announcements ready to unveil to the world; in particular, the launch of the Nokia 3, 5 and 6. The difference between the devices derives from the size, which are listed at 5, 5.3 and 5.5 inches screens respectively. These smartphone models are considered to be more price-friendly for consumers at only $240. Expect these devices to be released spring 2017.
Motorola: Motorola also managed to make a splash at this year’s Mobile World Congress, as they introduced their brand new Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus. The overall design of these new devices offers a metal body with a 5-inch HD display while the G5 Plus offers a larger 5.2-inch HD display. The internal specs include: a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 processor and 3GB of RAM, plus a larger 3,000mAh battery! It’s worth noting that only the Moto G5 Plus will be released in the U.S., starting at $229.00. Expect this smartphone to be released in March 2017.
Sony: Out of all of these aforementioned global brands, Sony released plans for the largest quantity of smartphones at MWC 2017. The four devices that were announced were the:
• Sony Xperia XA1 • Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra • Sony Xperia XZ Premium • Sony Xperia XZs
The device we have chosen to highlight for the purpose of this blog is the Sony Xperia XZ Premium. This is, no doubt, the cream of the crop when it comes to the Sony Xperia series! The device is described as having a mirrored body and is available in two colors: Luminous Chrome or Deepsea Black. This smartphone offers a 5.5-inch display with a phenomenal 3230mAh battery life. In addition, for camera enthusiasts, the Xperia XZ Premium provides a clear 13-megapixel camera on the front and super slow motion capability from the main camera! Expect to see this device released in late Spring of 2017 is estimated at a top-end price of over $800.00.
